Father’s Day is something of a stepbrother to Mother’s Day. While mum is celebrated in style, on Father’s Day the men tend to keep to themselves, with a drink and something off the barbecue.

In the light of today’s debates about gender, isn’t Mother’s Day a little anachronistic? How many grown-ups feel a twinge of a guilty conscience as Mother’s Day approaches? Is there really still room for fathers in all of this? Do fathers actually get a present too – beyond the usual token gifts?

Questions upon questions. To the last one, at least, I have an answer: a voucher for an Ayurvedic massage makes a wonderful Father’s Day present. But aren’t vouchers the token gift par excellence? They can be. It all depends on what a man actually gets for that voucher:

➡ Time just for himself
➡ A chance to unwind at last, physically and mentally – with no pressure to perform and no guilty conscience
➡ Letting go of ballast and muscular tension
➡ Giving himself some attention
➡ Doing something before burnout sets in
➡ Pure well-being

The Ayurvedic massage offers all of that. Who has ever given something like that as a gift?
